How big should a percentage price alert be?

By the Crypto Alerts & Alarms team · Published 28 October 2026 · Figures from Binance’s public market data

Big enough to ring on unusual days, not every day, and that depends on the coin. Over the 90 days to 27 October 2026, Bitcoin moved 5% or more in a day on 6 days, while NEAR Protocol did on 31. The table below shows how often each of 13 coins moved 2%, 3%, 5% and 10%, so you can pick a size that only an unusual day for that coin would reach.

Past figures, not a forecast. The counts describe the last 90 days. A quiet coin can turn busy, and the reverse.

A 5% alert means something different on every coin

On a coin whose typical day is under 1%, a 5% move is rare and worth hearing about. On a coin whose typical day is 3%, a 5% move happens often, and an alert that size starts to feel like noise. Setting the same percentage on every coin you watch means some of those alerts almost never ring and others ring all the time.

Choosing a size that rings on unusual days

A simple way to use the table: decide how unusual a move should be before you hear about it, then find the column where the coin’s count matches. There are about 13 weeks in 90 days, so a count near 13 means a move that size came about once a week, near 3 about once a month, and 0 or 1 means it hardly ever happened.

The counts use moves from one daily close to the next. An alert reacts to the price at any moment, so it can also ring on a day that swung by your percentage and came back before the close, and those days are not in the table. For Bitcoin, a 2% swing from the day’s open happened on 36 of the 90 days, against 16 days with a 2% move from close to close.

Percentage from when you set it, or a change within a time window

In Crypto Alerts & Alarms, a percentage alert measures from the price at the moment you set it, up, down or either way, with no time window: a 5% alert fires when the price is 5% away from where it was when you set the alert. Some other apps measure a change within a window instead, such as “down 5% within an hour”. The figures on this page count moves within one day, so read them as how unusual a move of each size has been for a coin, not as how often a particular alert would ring.

Setting an alert: the percentage is measured from the reference price, the price when you picked the pair.

Repeats and pauses, so one move does not ring ten times

A busy coin can cross the same level several times in an hour. An alert can fire once and switch off, or keep watching with a cooldown between firings, from 5 minutes to a day, so a level crossed again and again does not turn into a stream of notifications.

How these numbers are calculated

Daily candles for each coin’s USDT pair from Binance’s public market data, for the 90 complete UTC days from 30 July 2026 to 27 October 2026. Each day’s move is the change from the previous close to that day’s close, ignoring direction. Typical day is the median of those moves. Each coin name links to its page, with its pairs on every exchange in the app. The date at the top shows when the figures were last calculated.

Common questions

What is a good percentage for a crypto price alert?

One that only an unusual day for that coin would reach. In the 90 days to 27 October 2026, Bitcoin moved 2% or more on 16 days and 5% or more on 6, while NEAR Protocol moved 5% or more on 31 days. The table on this page gives the counts for each coin.

Does a percentage alert measure from the price when I set it?

In Crypto Alerts & Alarms, yes. It fires when the price has moved that far from where it was when you set the alert, up, down or either way, with no time window.

Why does the same percentage ring more often on some coins?

Because some coins move more on a typical day. In the last 90 days, NEAR Protocol’s typical daily move was 3.17%, against 0.80% for Bitcoin.
