Does crypto move on weekends?
Yes. Crypto exchanges trade around the clock, every day, so prices move on Saturdays and Sundays too. Over the 90 days to 27 October 2026, Bitcoin’s median move from a day’s open to its close was 1.01% on weekdays and 0.41% at weekends, and 13 of the 13 coins we track were quieter at weekends.
Past figures, not a forecast. A quiet weekend median says nothing about the next weekend, and the sample is small: the 90 days include 26 weekend days.

Coins are listed from the calmest to the most active by their typical daily move. The weekday and weekend columns use the move from each UTC day’s open to its close, so they are a little different from the close-to-close figures on the coin pages.
Day by day: how big a typical move was on each day of the week
Ninety days hold only about 13 of each weekday, so this table looks further back: the 365 days from 28 October 2025 to 27 October 2026. Each figure is the median size of the move from a UTC day’s open to its close, for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP. It measures how far the price moved, up or down, and says nothing about which way: this page does not count rising or falling days by weekday.
| Day (UTC) | Bitcoin | Ethereum | Solana | XRP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 1.48% | 1.98% | 2.22% | 1.70% |
| Tuesday | 1.33% | 1.86% | 1.58% | 1.70% |
| Wednesday | 1.42% | 1.73% | 2.33% | 1.79% |
| Thursday | 1.44% | 1.60% | 2.37% | 2.30% |
| Friday | 1.39% | 1.87% | 2.11% | 1.61% |
| Saturday | 0.45% | 0.77% | 0.85% | 0.62% |
| Sunday | 0.97% | 1.24% | 1.52% | 1.13% |
A quiet median still leaves room for big moves
A median describes a typical day, not every day. Half of all weekend days moved more than the weekend median, and a single news event can move a coin on a Sunday as much as on any Tuesday. The practical point is that a quieter weekend is the usual pattern, not a rule.
Alerts over a weekend: what to expect
An alert set on Friday keeps watching through Sunday. In Crypto Alerts & Alarms, prices are checked on our servers, not on your phone, so a level crossed at 3 AM on a Sunday fires at 3 AM on a Sunday. If that is a moment you need to be woken for, the alert can ring as a full-screen alarm that gets through silent mode on Android: how the alarm works.
Because weekends tend to be quieter, a percentage alert sized for weekday moves fires less often at weekends. How often each coin moved 2%, 3%, 5% and 10%.
How we calculated it
Daily candles for each coin’s USDT pair from Binance’s public market data, for the 90 complete UTC days from 30 July 2026 to 27 October 2026. For each day: the move from the open to the close, ignoring direction. Weekend means Saturday and Sunday in UTC, which starts and ends at a different local time depending on where you live. The day-by-day table uses the same kind of candle over the 365 complete UTC days from 28 October 2025 to 27 October 2026 and takes the median for each day of the week. When the table was first built, on 28 October 2026, Kraken’s and Coinbase’s own BTC/USD daily candles for the same 365 days gave weekday medians within 0.05 percentage points of Binance’s. The date at the top shows when the figures were last calculated.

Common questions
Does Bitcoin trade on weekends?
Yes. Crypto exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase and Kraken trade 24 hours a day, every day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
Is crypto more volatile on weekends?
In the last 90 days, 13 of the 13 coins we track had a smaller median move from open to close at weekends than on weekdays. Bitcoin’s was 0.41% at weekends against 1.01% on weekdays.
Does crypto move more on Mondays?
Over the 365 days to 27 October 2026, Bitcoin’s median move from a UTC day’s open to its close was 1.48% on Mondays and 1.39% from Tuesday to Friday, and Monday’s median was the larger of the two for 3 of the 4 coins measured (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP). These are sizes of moves, up or down, not which way the price went. Past figures, not a forecast.
Do price alerts work at weekends?
Yes. In Crypto Alerts & Alarms, alerts are checked on our servers around the clock, so a level crossed on a Sunday night fires on Sunday night.
