Crypto price alerts not working on Android? Six fixes, in order

By the Crypto Alerts & Alarms team · Published 28 October 2026 · Facts checked 28 October 2026

When a crypto price alert does not reach your Android phone, the cause is usually one of six things: the alert is no longer active, notifications are off for the app, the alert arrives silently, Do Not Disturb holds it, a battery setting puts the app to sleep, or the lock screen hides it. Check them in that order. If alerts arrive late, or only when you open the app, go straight to the battery settings.

The checks apply to any alert app, from Binance, Coinbase, Bybit, KuCoin and Kraken to TradingView and Crypto Alerts & Alarms, the app we make. Android paths come from Google’s and the phone makers’ own help pages, checked on 28 October 2026; menus differ by phone model and Android version.

The six checks at a glance

  1. Is the alert still active?
  2. Are notifications on for the app, and for this kind of alert?
  3. Does the alert make a sound, or arrive silently?
  4. Is Do Not Disturb holding it back?
  5. Is a battery setting putting the app to sleep?
  6. Can the alert show on the lock screen?

1. Is the alert still active?

Check: before changing any phone setting, open the app that holds the alert and find the alert itself. An alert often fires once and then switches itself off, so one that worked last week may simply be spent. Kraken, for example, lists triggered alerts separately, in a log where you can add them again (its help page).

Fix: set the alert again, or make it repeat if the app allows that. Exchange apps also keep rules of their own, and an alert can depend on the coins you follow: Kraken sends its volatility alerts only for markets you have favourited. Each guide covers one app’s rules: Binance, Coinbase, Bybit, KuCoin, Kraken, TradingView and DEX Screener.

An exchange can also pause alerts on its side. On 15 May 2025, Kraken’s status page announced at 17:45 UTC that price alert notifications would not be sent while it fixed an issue with some alerts, and marked the incident resolved at 21:08 UTC. If several alerts on one exchange go quiet at once, check that exchange’s status page or announcements first.

And each exchange has its own price, so an alert on one pair can stay quiet while a chart elsewhere crosses your level: which price an alert follows.

In Crypto Alerts & Alarms: each alert card says in words where it stands, such as “Watching · not fired yet”, “Fired 2 h ago · now off” or “Paused · it won’t fire until you switch it on”. A repeating alert that has just fired shows when it rearms, and crossings during that cooldown do not ring again. The History screen lists your latest alerts that fired, including any whose notification never reached the phone. An entry there means the alert worked and the problem is delivery, so carry on with checks 2 to 6.

2. Are notifications on for the app, and for this kind of alert?

Check: from Android 13, an app has to ask before it can show notifications, so declining that request blocks every alert from it until you turn notifications back on. Apps can also split their notifications into categories, and each category can be switched off on its own.

Fix: in the Settings app, open Notifications, then App notifications, choose the app and turn its notifications on (Google’s steps); on older Android versions the same list sits under Apps & notifications. Then open the app’s entry and check its categories. Crypto Alerts & Alarms has two, Standard Alerts and Critical Alarms. Some apps have a switch of their own as well: Kraken’s help page asks for push notifications to be on both in Android’s settings and inside its app.

In Crypto Alerts & Alarms: when you save an alert, the app checks whether push can reach this phone and says so in a line such as “Push: this phone is registered”, “Push isn’t reaching this phone yet” or “Push is off on this phone”.

3. Does the alert make a sound, or arrive silently?

Check: swipe down from the top of the screen after an alert should have fired. If it is there, it arrived and only the sound went missing. On some phones each category can be set to Alerting or Silent, and Google’s help says a silent notification makes no sound or vibration but still shows when you swipe down. Where a phone has Notification cooldown turned on, it also turns down sounds and pop-ups when many notifications arrive in a short time.

Fix: set the alert’s category back to Alerting, with a sound you will notice. On silent, an ordinary notification still makes no sound, so an alert that has to wake you needs to ring like an alarm: how to make a price alert ring like an alarm.

4. Is Do Not Disturb holding it back?

Check: was Do Not Disturb on, or due on a schedule, when the alert should have arrived? Google’s Pixel help puts it plainly: Do Not Disturb “silences most notifications”.

Fix: add the alert app to Do Not Disturb’s exceptions, or let alerts wait until it ends, which is often what you want at night. Do Not Disturb exceptions on Samsung and Pixel has the steps.

5. Is a battery setting putting the app to sleep?

Check: alerts that arrive late, several at once, or only when you open the app point here. When a phone sits unplugged and still with its screen off for a while, Android’s Doze mode cuts apps’ network access and saves their background work for short maintenance windows. Push messages sent at normal priority can wait for those windows; high-priority ones can wake the phone (Firebase’s docs). Phone makers add battery managers of their own on top, and Samsung’s help page says apps on its deep sleeping list “will never run in the background” and “will only work when you open them”: exactly the alert that turns up the moment you open the app.

Fix: exempt the alert app from battery saving. Each phone maker names the setting differently:

Keep Battery Saver off when an alert matters: Google’s help says it limits or turns off background activity.

6. Can the alert show on the lock screen?

Check: if alerts appear only after you unlock the phone, the lock screen may be hiding them. Android can hide all notifications there, or only those of the apps you choose.

Fix: in Settings, open Notifications, then Notifications on lock screen, and choose to show them; then check that the alert app is not set to hide its notifications there (Google’s steps). An alert built to fill the screen needs one more permission from Android 14, Full screen notifications, under Special app access. With it off, Android shows the alert as a banner, kept at the top for 60 seconds, instead of the full screen (Android’s documentation): what “Allow full screen notifications” means. Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones add permissions of their own here, including Show on Lock screen (Xiaomi steps).

If the alerts come from Crypto Alerts & Alarms

After any change, test it

Set a test alert a little above or below the current price, lock the phone, put it down and wait. If it arrives while the phone is locked and idle, the fix worked; if it shows up only when you pick the phone up, go back to check 5. How often a band that close was crossed.

Common questions

Why do my crypto alerts only arrive when I open the app?

Usually because a battery setting stops the app in the background. Samsung, for example, says apps on its deep sleeping list only work when you open them. Exempt the alert app in your phone’s battery settings: the setting on each phone.

Why are my price alert notifications delayed on Android?

Usually battery saving. While a phone sits idle, Android’s Doze mode can hold normal-priority push messages back, and phone makers’ own battery managers can stop an app until you open it. Exempting the alert app in the phone’s battery settings is the usual fix.

Why did my Binance or Coinbase price alert not go off?

First check in the exchange’s app that the alert is still active: one that has fired, been deleted or been switched off by the exchange will not ring. If it is active, check Android’s notification and battery settings for that app. Our Binance and Coinbase guides cover each exchange’s own rules.

Do price alerts work when the app is closed?

It depends on the app. Crypto Alerts & Alarms checks prices on its servers, so its alerts fire with the app closed; the phone only has to receive them, which is why battery settings still matter.

Do I need to turn off battery optimization for price alerts?

If alerts arrive late or only when you open the app, yes, for that one app. Google recommends keeping most apps optimized, so exempt only the apps whose alerts cannot wait.
